A Little Update

I have not yet taken the plunge into job hunting in the legal field, although I am constantly updating my resume and checking in on my Linkedin site. I am still a bit uncertain as far as how to proceed with my career... Should I wait until I get the degree, and apply for a paralegal position at that time? Or should I apply now for legal secretary jobs, and hope that some firm, somewhere will be willing to promote a secretary to a para?

I'm very big on job security, so I am weighing all options very carefully before making any major decisions. In the meantime, I have been remaining focused on my studies, and am (less than) pleased to report that I got a "B" on my contracts midterm. I studied very hard for this test (the first test I have taken in years, by the way) and was quite disappointed when I received the dreaded not quite good enough to be the best score.

A quick aside: Do any of you readers know where on the resume the volunteer work belongs? I've been told that job hunters such as myself who have little experience or large gaps in employment should be sure to include volunteer activities. Thoughts?

Well, what do you think? I was hesitant to use the photo since I'm dressed casually in it, but I think it will do for the time being.

Which Would You Recommend?

I'm trying to decide which photo would look best on my linkedin site. I don't want to appear unprofessional, but I definitely understand the importance of letting my individuality and outgoing personality shine through.

Should I go for the business suit/hair up/glasses/small smile?

Or should I go for a more relaxed vibe, laid back but still polished and able to be taken seriously? (which will be difficult to pull off, methinks.)

If you were an employer surfing through profiles, which would catch your attention (in a positive way)?

The Journey of a Thousand Miles Begins With a Single Step

Greetings and Saluations,
I have decided to resurrect this old blog of mine, revamp it, and repurpose it entirely. The past year has brought about many changes in all aspects of my life, and I am ready to embrace this mystery of a future I am facing.

I have (finally) decided on a career path and am actively pursuing my degree in Paralegal Studies at my local community college. Although at this time I am only taking one course, I intend to attempt as many as three courses next semester, while continuing to work full time at the hospital.

I am always keeping my options open as far as employment, so I have been trying to tweak my resume every so often and keeping my ears open for opportunities at nearby law firms. I've also updated my profile on Linkedin, which you can view HERE.
